About this product

The tiger is a vicious beast.  He doesn't care about the aesthetic side of chess.  He doesn't even care about making the best moves.  All he cares about is winning.

Chess for Tigers is one of the most influential books on chess ever written.  This third edition, revised and updated by the author shortly before his tragic death in 2005, is as relevant to today's generation of chess players as when it was first published 25 years ago.  It makes ideal reading for club players who want to make full use of their own natural talent and win at all costs.

Features:
  • Play on your opponent's weaknesses
  • Steer a game into a position that suits you and not your opponent
  • Get results against strong opposition
  • Cope with the clock
  • Avoid silly mistakes
  • Make sure luck is on your side
Full of common-sense advice, straight talking and humor, and enlivened by Edward McLachlan's witty illustrations, this book is an acknowledged chess classic.

Simon Webb began to make an impact on the chess world in the 1960s.  He learned the game at the age of seven and ten years later, in 1966, he became under-18 champion in the UK and fourth in the European junior championship.  He moved to Sweden in the 1970s and became one of the few correspondence chess Grandmasters.  The first edition of Chess for Tigers was published in 1978.  He died in 2005.
