Ebony Chess Pieces

Ebony chess pieces are some of the best chess pieces money can buy. For the ultimate contrast in a chess set choose real Ebony pieces. The wood is a dark, nearly black hardwood that is pleasing to the eye.

Some dark chess sets look similar to Ebony. They are ebonized and are a less expensive variety. These are not the real Ebony wood. Ebonized sets are lacquered, stained, or painted to appear black. Real ebony often has a distinctive reddish brown tint to the "black" wood.

Ebony chess pieces are great for collectors and the average chess player, but they typically cost more than average. You will be sure to enjoy a premium set of Ebony pieces. Most of the Ebony pieces are leather based and weighted.
