About this product

In May 1997 Gary Kasparov, widely regarded as the greatest chess player the world has ever seen, played Deep Blue - a hulking one and a half ton IBM supercomputer. As it played out in the media, this was a chess tournament and scientific experiment that would question our dominance as the most intelligent entity on the planet. Capturing people’s imaginations, the outcome of this Man vs. Machine battle was stunning. To win the match, the computer did what many thought impossible at the time - it appeared to think like a human.

Game Over: Kasparov Meets the Machine May 1, 2006
Reviewer: Mikel from South Carolina
I have been looking forward to watching this for months now and finally the day came. To say that it was tense, is like saying Bill Gates is merely a software designer. It took off from the get go but not for the reasons I expected. The Kasparov camp behaved very childishly in the face of defeat, especially Garry Kasparov. When I think of Kasparov regarding his match with Deep Blue, the words, bitter, sour grapes, self-centered, ego maniacal with a touch of the God Complex, come to mind. I was a fan of his, now I am thoroughly delighted with the outcome. The film itself was well thought out and executed with just the right amount of intensity and controversy. It's as if I was right there in the audience. I could actually feel the exasperation in Garry Kasparov, and the genuine surprise and shock of Joel Benjamin and IBM when he went out on stage and accused them of cheating. I enjoyed Game Over very much and recommend the film highly, especially if you are a fan of computer chess.
