Josh Waitzkin started playing chess at the age of six in New York's Washington Square Park, where he was discovered by Bruce Pandolfini, who became his teacher. He became a national master at thirteen and an international master at sixteen. He has won eight national scholastic championships and became the US. Junior Champion in 1994. Josh lives in New York City.
