This Oriental 8-Fairy Soapstone Chess set with it's matching wood box are the perfect fit for a chess board that you might want to keep on taking out and putting away! With the pieces storing easily inside the board which also functions as a folding box, you can't ask for much more!

Elegantly shaped Soapstone figures of Oriental fairies, the distinctive and beautiful light green vs dark burgundy chessmen, and the board with it's sharply contrasting black vs white squares--all add to the richness and cultured appearance of this unique theme set! Even further, each white square has an Oriental drawing design on it, with lively colors and flowing pictures reminiscent of the culture and art of the Orient.

The folding wood case, with the board set into it provides a great background to the soapstone pieces rising from the surface of 64 squares. A collector set, and with details that give it a specialty appearance, you are sure to love and use it often!

The board has gold colored handles for carrying the set in suitcase fashion. The chess set pieces themselves slide into little straps for safe transportation in the drawers coming out of the box. A work of art surely finds it's way to the chess board!

Although the actual product I received is a bit different from the photo advertisement (the color of the chess box is not gold, but like the classic Oriental folding set), the details that went into the carving of the stone pieces are just amazing. However, I would like to point out a few minor negatives. First of all, considering that the product is made in Taiwan, you can't exactly expect top-notch quality.
1. The inlays are made of plastic, not wood as I expected, and they're not exactly perfectly aligned either.
2. Although the frame of the box is made of solid wood, the outer casing is more like cardboard.
3. My dark pieces seem almost perfect, but the light pieces contain slight scratches and other imperfections, the most annoying of all being that the base of EVERY light piece is tarnished (not as smooth as the rest of the figure). Good thing is you can't see it unless you're looking for it, and the felt bottom ensures they can slide across the board without too much trouble.
