The pawns are representative of the eight wise men regarded by the Oriental cultures, and give the set an air of wisdom far beyond a normal chess set! The red ranks have deep red and yellow tones set upon them, and make a perfect contrast to the blue side: the blue's have deep and cloudy blue colorings making them striking and attractive chessmen themselves!
