The Catalan is one of the openings in which Black can indeed equalize easily, but often comes off second-best in the positional battle that follows. This is because the players of White have usually internalized the laws and plans of this opening better. GM Marin has carefully examined the variations of this opening, considering its details and the opening as a whole. The multiple champion of Rumania and successful ChessBase author points out numerous possible transpositions and related variations - part of them even belonging to other openings. In this way, Marin not only offers promising insights into a true Grandmaster opening - he also makes the CD an asset for connoisseurs of the Catalan. In no less than 62 sections, the various complexes of variations are introduced.
