A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 3.75" King with a 1.75"diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are Black and Natural Lacquered and heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a rich finish. The design of the  Players Series Chess set has been inspired by the Jaques of London design from the late 1890s, a period widely regarded by Chess collectors as having the finest Staunton Chess Sets ever produced. The Players Series Chess set is ideal for those that are interested in a quality Chess set at a very affordable price.

As with all of our Chess sets, the Player Series Chessmen exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton over 10 years ago.

Chess pieces:
  • To create Black and Natural Lacquered Chessmen, Boxwood pieces are painted with black lacquer or clear-coat Lacquer and then hand-rubbed with fine pumice stone. The result is a hard, durable water-resistant finish which has a very high gloss.
Chessboard:
  • The Standard Traditional Blackwood / Bird's Eye Maple wooden Gloss Chessboard with 2.25" Squares features Blackwood (dark) and Bird's Eye Maple (light) squares with a Blackwood frame. This Chessboard is 0.5" thick and has a high gloss finish. Has felt pads at each corner to slightly elevate board from surface and protect from scratches.
Chessbox:
  • The Mahogany Standard Chess Box is lined in green velour, divided and features brass quadrant hinges and a brass locking clasp.
