Product Details
An All-round Guide by a King's Indian Specialist. Despite its sharp and aggressive nature, the King's Indian is an opening that lends itself well to discussion in terms of plans, ideas and pawn-structures. Those who are familiar with these underlying themes will enjoy an enormous practical advantage when facing those who lack this understanding, even if they are theoretically well-prepared.
Golubev is ideally qualified to provide a realistic and informative guide to the King's Indian: he has played it for the whole of his chess career, scoring many devastating victories. He draws upon this extensive experience to choose the most instructive games and positions, and to provide a wealth of insightful tips.
Mikhail Golubev
is a grandmaster from Odessa, Ukraine, who plays regularly in tournaments in eastern and central Europe. He is a noted expert in several sharp and aggressive opening systems, including the King's Indian and the Dragon. His previous book, The Sicilian Sozin, has been praised for the quantity and quality of its original analysis, and for Golubev's objectivity in identifying the critical lines.
Reviews:
"Golubev has not written often, but his contributions to sharp opening theory have not been overlooked. … Thus, his lifelong account of his King's Indian practice is well-worth the small investment. … This is a great opening book worthy of consideration for most players and especially critical to players involved in the King's Indian Defense discussion." - Lou Mercuri, Chess Horizons
"If you work with this book, you will affirm, that the author is with you in the tiniest details, thorough, self-critical, and comprehensively analytical" - E Carl, Rochade
"Golubev's inspiring work deserves to take its place, alongside Gallagher's excellent King's Indian books, on the shelf of aggressive players everywhere." - Phil Adams
"...it's still a pleasure to review a most readable book on one of the most popular and classical chess openings." - Michael Stevenson, New Zealand Chess
"The author has been a lifelong devotee of the KID, so there are few players better qualified to unravel the mysteries of this ever-popular defensive system. In fact he has been so successful with it that he has been able to concentrate exclusively on his own games to illustrate Black's best play." - Alan Sutton, En Passant
"The material is well-chosen and instructive. Well worth buying by all Chessfriends who want to get to know the strategic and tactical problems of the opening." - Jerzy Konikowski, Fernschach International
"With the aid of this excellent opening survey you too can play the KID with confidence. Highly recommended!" - PHL Hughes, Chess Post
"Anyone who already plays the King's Indian or is thinking of taking it up cannot help but benefit from this book. Highly recommended." - John Donaldson, www.jeremysilman.com
"Well worth buying for the advanced chessfriend who speaks English" - Schachmarkt
"The author's enthusiasm for the opening is clear and infectious, but does not stray into Gufeldesque hyperbole, so this looks like an excellent book, very thorough and with the customary outstanding Gambit production quality." - Steve Giddins, BCM
"Grandmaster Mikhail Golubev from the Ukraine describes in this latest Gambit book the latest developments of the King's Indian with a impressive collection of 56 model games all played by Golubev himself, and that is truly super instructive because there is no better way to explain chess than from your own King's Indian experiences!" - John Elburg, Chess Mail, chessbooks.nl
