Novag Citrine Chess Computer
The Novag Citrine Electronic chess computer has beautiful hand carved chess pieces, Novag's Citrine looks more classy looking than all of the cheaper plastic chess computers, the wood board makes the Novag Citrine look just like a classic wooden chess board and for that reason it is the chess computer of choice for playing chess Player vs Player. One really cool feature that the Novag Citrine has, is the LCD screen. Unlike most chess computers the LCD screen on the Novag Citrine is built into a little box that is detatchable from the chess computer. This is good for two reasons. First of all the LCD screen is the easiest part of a chess computer to break, and secondly you can play with the Novag Citrine Player vs Player without the LCD screen in view, without the LCD screen the Novag Citrine looks just like a really high class, quality chess board. All this coupled with a strong playing level and auto sensory chess board/pieces, makes the Novag Citrine chess computer the only in its class!!!

1st off I do not own a Novag Citrine yet :) They have been out of stock at most places I've looked. Now with that said and out of the way, here is what I can tell you. The Chess House has the best price that I have seen for this Chess Set so far.
The Novag Citrine has all the features that you would expect from a dedicated tabletop computer chess set. There are tournament, average time, fixed depth, analysis, novice /beginner, and find mate levels. There is an 24,000 half moves opening book for the Citrine, however there are no options for it such as Tournament, Active or Passive book settings.
So far so good, sounds like a deluxe wood model of a dedicated chess computer. Nothing so special here and if that were all it would still be good value for the price. I mean after all you get an elegant and luxurious wooden chessboard with a strong program for a stimulating and challenging chess game. You can move the hand carved Staunton style chessmen with ease on the auto-sensor board. Each square is framed by LED lights which illuminate when a square is touched by a chess piece or when the citrine notifies you about a move or a function.
But what really makes the Novag Citrine so special is that you can also connect the citrine to your PC using the included serial cable. You can use this feature to record or print the moves of your games or more importantly... You can use you Novag Citrine in a similar fashion to the popular DGT Boards. Which means you can play against some of your computer chess engines such as Shredder, Hiarcs, Rybka, and other popular chess programs using the "Free" Arena Chess GUI. The current version that works is Arena 1.99 Beta 4. You can download Arena from the link below:

There is even a Linux driver available so that you can use your Novag Citrine in the linux operating system. See the links below for Linux support:
