I had a bad experience with GameKnot that came from their anti-cheating policies (I played from behind a corp firewall and they thought I was a duplicate account). Their administration showed no interest in fact finding and would rather ban players without appeal or any communication. I logged in one day and my account was 'restricted'. I could not get even an explanation email from them. Obviously, this lack of common courtesy makes them a bad choice in my book. There are many other fish in the sea.

The same by me. Just now my messaging preveligies are suspended, and have been for the past 4 months. When they were suspended I was told I could write to the gameKnot administration after three months, about having them back again. I have done that, in facht 5 times now!! And still I haven“t got any reply from them. This really sucks!!

Yes, gameknot sucks!
I reported a possible cheater, then MY account was restricted for "rules violation".
They say, that just means I need to pay more to upgrade to premium service, then I won't be restricted. WHAT A F---ing JOKE!

Cowplay or queenalice seem to be good servers, as is FICS, so DUMP gameknot.

I've been on Gameknot for years and I like the site alot. The blitz site has always needed improvement and can't be compared to better blitz sites like ICC or Instantchess, but the long games and how you can set up a nice profile and picture for yourself are great.
I heard the complaints so far,but if you follow these simple rules, you will never have a problem on the GameKnot site:
1.Never ever use a computer at work or at home that any other player uses to connect to the Gameknot site that has a different user name.
2.Never ever use any kind of intimidating or foul language, even if the other opponent "deserves" it and he was rude to you.I said...never!
3.Just place that opponent on your ignore list and take the time, date and exactly what they wrote to you and then complain to GK.if they do not respond,so be it,but never say a bad word to anyone, even if you feel its justified,or you too will have your writing privileges or profile suspended.I suspect the complainers that I read about on here, did something that I listed in #1 or #2,or else they wouldn't have had a problem.

Yes, Gameknot is a f...... joke !! They promise you a lot of good features if you become a paying member. Well, so I did and then startet all the ludicrous things. First I ran into trouble making my moves. I then wrote to the administation. No response. I even wrote several times. Then the speed all of a sudden became very slow at the page, and at last I ran into trouble logging in at the page.

No, keep away from this page. That is my advice. Their only interest is to steal your money, and then they give a damm about you!!

Yeah it was because of the way you talked to other people there you was rude insulting.

I had a similar experience. I was not rude to anyone, nor did I break any rules, that I can tell. My account, for which I had been paying for three years, had all communication features banned (formus, chat, etc.). I e-mailed the admins and was told that 30 days after that day, I could e-mail them, and my account would be restored. After several attempts to find out what I did wrong were met with silence, I gave up. After the 30 days passed, I asked to have my account restored, and was met with more silence. I am still unable to communicate on my account, and my 30 days were supposed to be over in August of '07!

I will never use that site again, and I recommend that everyone else do the same. There are better options out there.

Not being able to play from home and work (and work is when I have the most time to play believe it or not) makes GAMEKNOT a bad choice.

They're all about the money!!! If you pay for a membership, they're more lenient on things like this. They'll even reply to legitimate questions (if you're a member).

If you're not a member, GAMEKNOT is a total waste of time.

I understand their policy against cheaters, being rude but not being able to play from behind a proxy (such as at work) makes me avoid the place. I will never buy a membership there as long as that rule exists.

I tried to sign up but every possible user name I entered was 'already taken.' I found that hard to believe so I typed in a bunch of gibberish and finally got accepted and had an open account. Then I searched for players with the user names I wanted. They didn't exist. Then I tried to start a real account with an actual user name and all of a sudden they thought I had multiple accounts (which I sorta did) and I could not play. Since there is no way to delete an account and no way to contact them I am now forever banned from them as long as I use my laptop. This is a bad site.

I like gameknot website -- played a lot of chess there -- but lately I get error messsages like crazy on the site -- figured it was my computer's fault -- but after spending fifty bucks on tech support I discovered it was the gameknot site itself -- something is messed up in their technology -- haven't a clue what that might be to -- and I've decided to avoid their site altogether from now on --
