About The Standard Flat Wood Chess Box
Birchwood chess box with formed insert is designed for 3 1/2" Standard Staunton chess Pieces pieces or other pieces of the same dimensions and profile. This box generally will not work with non-standard Staunton pieces (such as Themed Sets).

I had a Turkish 32 piece 3.3 king and laser printed steampunk set with a truly bizarre 2 3/4” king with beer mug handles ; counting on the double sided coffer wells to protect it. Fair price considering the competition; sunken hinges a nice touch.
I received what I thought I had ordered.
After looking at many options, I decided on this box. When the package arrived, it was exactly what I thought it was. The box looked as it did in the images; the pieces fit as I expected.
The pieces fit nicely in the molded insets. The only drawback is that the box accommodates a standard 32-piece set and I have a double queen (34-piece) set so need to store the extra pieces elsewhere. Otherwise, it does the job as intended.
This was a gift for a family member who bought a hand-made chess set but didn't have anything to put it in. He was very pleased with this box and will put it on display on a side table that has a chessboard etched into it ready to play. The box is beautiful and matches the picture perfectly.
