Product Details

One of the main reasons the Sicilian is the most popular opening is that is it promotes such bold and aggressive chess. But as White it's not enough just to attack; you must do so in the right way, using the appropriate weapons. In this book Yury Lapshun and Nick Conticello introduce, categorize and analyze the 'Seven Deadly Sacrifices' White has at his disposal. It's impossible to play Open Sicilian positions with either color without an intimate knowledge of these sacrifices, and by using illustrative games the authors teach you everything you need to know, including the vital skill of how to recognize when favorable sacrificial conditions arise.

Author Yury Lapshun is an International Master and an experienced coach who has guided individuals and teams to national championships. Nick Conticello won two Chess Journalist of America awards in 2003 and was named Organizer of the Year by the USCF in 1996.

7 Ways is a Smashing success

I like this book a lot. It's helping me understand these middle-game positions a lot. I played these a lot as Black when I was a teenager and had to stop because it was just too difficult. Now I see what my opponents were doing to me and Lapshun & Conticello do a great job explaining it. Their writing is clear, unpretentious and points to areas of uncertainty. Their game selections are to the point and completed with some references to other key games.

I haven't finished it yet, but I really look forward to every upcoming game.
