It's a pleasure to play chess with these handcrafted wood chessmen. The 34 chessmen are made in India from Boxwood and Babul (Acacia), finished in clear coat to highlight their grain. Babul wood has a distinctive porous grain peppered with black tones.

Nicely weighted set

I've looked around different vendors selling this set but the weighting was a bit too light for my playing tastes so when I found this set on Raphael's website I bought it in an Anjanwood and boxwood material. The pieces are niceslyl carved and the additional carry case was a great throw in accompanied extra to keep the pieces well protected when not in use. The set is a tad smaller than the more recent plastic Ulitmate chess sets being sold on the market but the pieces are well balanced and play beautifully in blitz matches. Great job Raphael, I will continue my shopping on your website for future chess equipment orders.
