Large bases provide exceptional stability and these are the heaviest pieces of "non-weighted" DGT sets (25.2 oz). A nicely carved chess set, with a similar attention to detail seen in the Royal set; the only flaw being a less than perfect job of applying the *black felt (e.g., undersized, off-center, **glue application). White pieces are actually quite yellow and have a glossy appearence. There are slight variations in color of the yellow pieces. The black piece have a hazed-black appearance (compared to gloss black). The pawns have a large diameter head as do the bishops and rooks. The queen's crown is highly detailed with nine points. This particular design has a knight that stands at the same height as the bishop making it appear more prominent than in many other chess designs. Anyone familiar with the DGT Plastic set will see the similarity it has with this wooden Classic set.
The pieces arrived with most of the larger pieces protectively wrapped, the pawns and knights were not.
Second photo shows the distinctive yellow of the white pieces (top) versus other sets.
* Note: I've replaced the black felt with red in the attached photo
** Some glue was on the side of the base on a couple pieces and it is applied inconsistently.
