My 10-year-old grandson joined the chess club at his school, and that got his dad (my son) interested and so now the board comes out every time we're over there. My set was an ancient cheap plastic thing which was not as much fun when I'm the host, and so I said I would buy a decent set, with nice heavy pieces. Your marble set emerged as an economical alternative that looked like it was a good size and quality, with virtually no negative customer reviews. I ordered it on the spot.
I like the set very much. The size and heft of the pieces is exactly what I was thinking of, and the sort of tan color of the "white" pieces fits in with our home's style and decor. The set now occupies a more or less permanent spot at one end of the coffee table in the living room where one player can sit on the couch and the other can easily pull up a chair or sit on a big pillow on the floor.
I play chess for social reasons, same as golf. I don't kid myself that I will ever be any good. I just try to avoid embarrassment by keeping my pieces off the edges and disrupting any plots I see developing against me. Games of all kinds are a fantastic way to spend time with kids, especially in the colder months.
I look forward to many winter nights playing chess by the fire and my best-loved guys, and having such a great-looking set just makes it that much better. Thanks.
