Beautiful at first but long term?

After a few broken pieces and defects in the board that chess house promptly replaced, the set was great and a nice addition to our living room. That said, after almost a year the board is faded out, to the point of small circles on the board where the pieces rest when not playing. The living room has sun blocking shades on all the windows so there is no direct sun. I will have to explore options to refinish the the board and black/brown pieces as the muted colors will drive me crazy each time I play.
