Product Details

Brooklyn Castle tells the stories of five members of the chess team at a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in the country. The film follows the challenges these kids face in their personal lives as well as on the chessboard, and is as much about the sting of their losses as it is about the anticipation of their victories.

If Albert Einstein, who was rated 1800 in chess, were to join this incredible chess team, he'd only rank fifth best! Chess has transformed this school from one cited in 2003 as a "school in need of improvement" to one of New York City's best. But a series of recession-driven public school budget cuts now threaten to undermine those hard-won successes.

Brooklyn Castle DVD

Had the pleasure of viewing this documentary film with a panel of esteemed guest ie, the films director and some of the Connecticut chess community out on the Storrs campus at UCONN last year. The subject of chess always gets my attention; so while watching the film the audience had the opportunity too see an elite group of chess authorities put it all on the line for what they're passionate about .... the game of chess. A must see... then you'll see
