About VTEK 300 Ultimate Chess Clock.

The VTEK 300 clock is truly the ultimate chess game clock. Finally a display that's brilliant with all the information chess players need to see both during game play and while adjusting settings. And setting the clock is intuitive to say the least. You'll learn how to set this clock very quickly.

Fully made in the USA by expert engineers, it will last. The battery life exceeds the Chronos, as does just about everything else about this clock that we've tested. Yes, the price is more than the Chronos, but the overall experience is more than twice as good.

This clock offers all the settings a casual or competitive player outlined clearly in a mere 11 page manual.

850 hours of game play is estimated on 3 AA batteries. When in idle mode they should last more than 2 years. When about 12 hours of game play are remaining, a low battery warning will show. There is an easy to access battery compartment with two Philips screws. Of course, it is recommended to remove the batteries if not being used for more than a year.

Great Clock and worth the price

The V-Tek300. This clock has all the advantages of a digital clock but the operational simplicity of an analogue clock. It is worth the price. This clock is built like a tank, and can be used easily for tournaments, skittles, or blitz play. It’s very similar to the Chronos II, but easier and fantastic to program. It’s a clock, not a ‘Go’ clock with byo-yomi or whatever. This is a first class chess clock. This is one of those clocks once you have used it, you’ll understand why the it’s a sweet clock and the price is justified.
You don’t have to take the clock apart to replace the batteries. There’s a little battery compartment door. It’s simple to program you don’t even need the manual. It supports USCF and FIDE modes. What really needs to be mentioned is, there seems to be an unreliable supply of Chronos II clocks. It’s almost as though the Chronos Gx is all they are supplying now. The Chronos II clocks that are available on eBay are WAY overpriced. Even so, this clock’s new interface and ease of use, is by far superior to that of the
Chronos II . You can play any kind of slow, or fast game on this clock with ease and satisfaction. No one that I’ve played a game with using this clock has complained in tournament games or skittles. You can’t accidentally reset this clock. If you walk away and the clock ‘mysteriously’ has been turned off, you can recall the last game exactly where it was when the clock was ‘mysteriously’ turned off. They have kept all the great things about the Chronos II, but improved upon all the not so great things about the Chronos II. It’s a big substantial clock, which I don’t mind. I have several Chronos Gx’s, and DGT North America’s if I need a smaller footprint. Playing on this clock is like driving a big comfortable luxury car. It really is a nice comforting clock. I don’t regret buying this clock.

Excellent clock.

I have read some of the other reviews and just shake my head --- especially the review that trashes the clock for not having byo-yomi. I've played chess for over 45 years and have never needed byo-yomi.

The clock is solid, durable, easy to set, and provides excellent functionality. For those complaining that it is over priced, this clock could not provide more value for money. An excellent investment.

Can't do byo-yomi

I SOOO wanted to love this clock - the display & user interface are awesome - but the fact that byo-yomi was ignored as a mode (which makes no sense to me) was a dealbreaker, as I also play Go.

I emailed and called American Chess Equipment multiple times to get help, but no reply.

I bought a Chronos GX instead.

Hopefully at some point there will be a firmware upgrade to handle byo-yomi... seems like quite an oversight.
