Established in Hull, Yorkshire in 1969, Studio Anne Carlton now lists over 100 chess sets in the current range.
Many of them are recent introductions but they all bear the hallmarks of skill and tradition so typical of the world-famous sculptors and artists used by Studio Anne Carlton.
Each Studio Anne Carlton chess set utilizes the timeless skills and craftsmanship originating from the company's founding. All pieces are hand-produced and finished in either a traditional brown and cream appearance or hand decorated with painstaking detail.
The sculptures often take many months to complete and every care is taken to ensure historical accuracy where appropriate. As the artists' masterpiece, the figures pass through various casting processes until suitable production moulds can be made without losing any of the original detail.
In 2003, Studio Anne Carlton line was bought by Traditional Games. They moved manufacturing from the U.K. to China around 2003. All poly resin chess sets are made in China today. SAC's wooden chess sets come primarily from India.
