Why 2 queens per color?

Gary, that would be for pawn promotion, so if you are able to move your pawn all the way to the other side of the board without being captured you can swap it out for a different piece. Most people want to swap for a queen and if you still have your queen on the board having an extra one allows you to still do so. This wooden chess set is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
