1) The King Performance is technically newer, but they both came out about the same time
2) With an ELO up to about 3000, the Centaur is stronger
3) Both have their strengths. *DGT Centaur -- Key Points: Predictive Piece Recognition, Modern Design, Innovating way to indicate piece movement (LED under square), auto adjusting play strength based on the user. Very smooth and natural game play Best For Non-Professional, Non-tournament Players who just want a quick and simple way to play and be challenged.
King Performance -- Key Points: Easy Pressure Sensitive Board, On square LED move indicator, Wood Veneer looks great, Great for Study with thoughtful features and many ways to configure for play, including tournament settings. With Accessory item Chess Link, this unit can connect to apps and computers for even more variety of uses including online play with others. Not as natural play as Centaur since you need to press down lightly on the piece in beginning and final position of the piece play.
4) Within the bounds of a standard game, there is no limit to the take back moves available. In other words, you can take the game completely back to the start if you like.
5) The Centaur display is crisper, but is a little bit of a trade off because it has a smaller screen than the performance
6) Both have a similar method of setting up the positions, so I would put them on par.
This wooden chess set is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
