The Centaur doesn't save games, so you would be better off with DGT (Smartboard or Eboard) or Millennium (King Performance, Exclusive or Chess 960).
Is this a good electronic set for teaching teens.
We play games. I want to be able to save the games we play and show them how to analyze the mistakes. Am I better off with a connected set like the DGT? This magnetic board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.

Question: Is this compatible with online chess platforms? Can I connect and play with someone on real board? ?
Answer: The Centaur is a stand alone board and does not connect online. Some people have modified the product to give it the ability to do that, but it requires voiding the warranty and a level of technical knowledge to do. This chess board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.

Question: Can you use the centaur when the battery has died, as you cannot replace the battery.
Answer: DGT does not offer or plan to offer any lithium replacement batteries for the Centaur; however, the unit can be used when plugged in. So, assuming the battery fails to hold a charge after 10 years of continual use, you can still keep it going with the power adapter.
Beyond this, there have been discussions on the Chess.com forum about opening up a Centaur. Someone did this and noted that the Lithium battery is not hard wired and the battery specs are listed on the battery itself, meaning that it's possible a suitable replacement could be found and swapped without any soldering required. -
Question: Since the Centaur battery is not advertised as replaceable, what can the user do once its battery's life is over ?
Answer: Hugo, thanks so much for checking in! So far, from communication with DGT we have found out that the battery has been tested and is said to be able to perform past the warranty period. We have been told that the battery is indeed replaceable, however, if the battery is replaced outside of an authorized service center before the warranty has expired that would void the warranty. We are waiting to hear from them as to how a customer would eventually, if needed, obtain a new battery and what type of battery it is.
