The eboards and smartboards themselves don't have any program built in, they are an input device, similar to a keyboard. They require a Windows based computer to be used.
When you purchase an E-board or a Smartboard, they do come with either Fritz 13 or Fritz 14 which you can install on your PC. They have a Fritz Chess Engine, but you can then load in any free chess engines you can find. (Stockfish, etc)
You cannot use your own chess set on an eboard or smartboard.
Based on what you've said, a smartboard would work well. If you don't have a PC, you can purchase the DGT Pi computer to go with the smartboard to have a complete setup.
