The strength and function depends on the computer program interacting with the board.
The smartboard and Eboards all come with Fritz computer software that you can use in conjunction with the board on a Windows based PC and free chess engines can be found online which can give different playing experiences akin to different players and their styles. We are not aware of any engines that offer an 'auto-adapter' level like the Centaur.
If you don't have a computer, the DGT Pi (computer) can fill that gap, offering several different chess engines that you can select with different strength levels to adjust as well. Though, we're not aware that the Pi has any 'auto-adapt' feature yet. This chess board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
