Does the King Performance require special chess pieces or can any chess pieces be used?

The King Performance does not require special pieces; however, since the board is a pressure sensitive, the sensitivity CAN be adversely affected by heavier weighted pieces. If the weight is too much, the board will not function properly. This electronic chess computer is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
