Donald, we don't have these in yet so we pulled information from our supplier's site and this is what I am seeing.
Board Dimensions: 12.2 x 12.2 x 0.97 inches
King height: 2.17 inches
As to using any pieces, I don't think you can based on what it says here
Your moves are recognized instantly by the computer with fully automatic move detection!
This leads me to believe that each piece has a sensor in it that the board detects. This chess board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
