Could I use my own wood pieces instead of the ones that come with the set?

James, the King Competition has a pressure sensitive board so, yes, you can use your own pieces. I checked with someone here and the thing they warned against was if the pieces were too heavy they might trigger the pressure board on their own. This chess board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
