User experience will vary with this. Based on our customer support for the Centaur, is only a minority of players who experience this issue and contact us.
It may be that some players have a well defined opening setup that makes the computer think they are higher rated than they are. When they start to make weaker moves in the middle and endgame, the computer likely adjusts down, but might have a good advantage positionally at that point making it harder to beat even with the computer playing weaker moves.
Some customers have found it helpful to reset the Centaur and though no one has reported back on whether this works, it might even help to play a few games making terrible moves at the start. This chess board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
