Rich, thanks so much for reaching out. I would not recommend folding a vinyl board, our flex pad boards can be folded but not vinyl. This chess set is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
Can you fold the chess board to fit into a plastic box say 12x12 and will it lay completely flat again?
