Question: Can you set up pieces / problem mode and play out the set up ?
Answer: With the King Performance you can set up a position and play it out, but not by simply placing the pieces on the board (like you can with the Chess Classics Exclusive), Setting up with the KP or the King Competition requires you to select the particular piece(s) you want to put down, place them, then move onto the next piece until the position is set. This magnetic board is designed for quality and enjoyable play.

Question: Is this set good for teaching how to play chess?
Answer: The King Performance can be a great option for teaching chess but with a caveat. The Pros include name identification of openings, Info screen that provides analysis on current point position, best move calculation, as well as a host of game modes and tweaks that can be dialed in to a particular players level. The computer's playing style can be tweaked as well.
The caveat? If you plan to teach a lot through positional play (ie setting up positions), you may find setting up those positions takes a little bit longer than units offering full piece recognition (like the Genius Exclusive or Chess Classics Exclusive) where you can essentially put the pieces on the board, push a few buttons and you're ready to play. This electronic chess computer is designed for quality and enjoyable play.
