As far as we can tell from the manual, it does appear that your custom setting is saved. This is only based on the language from the manual, not from user experience. The key segment below is "for the first time", implying that once a manual setting is changed, it won't display the default again. If batteries are removed (or go dead), there is a very good likelihood that the setting will revert back to default.
