The magnets hold the board together very well when the board is on a flat surface. You can move the board fairly quickly on a surface just by holding one quadrant and they will stay together. However the minute you raise any quadrant they will disconnect and that is how they are intended to work. The magnetic function is there to hold the 4 quadrants when the board is flat. It does not hold the stack parts. The suede wrap does have magnets however which hold this cover in place.
