There are two wooden sets in particular that I would point out for a 10 year old boy. First, the classic set is sized at 19" square, a good large size and it has durable wooden pieces that are easy to source replacements for any time through the years. It has Drawstring bag storage for those pieces as well. https://www.chesshouse.com/products/c... Second, I recommend the Club Chess Set Combo https://www.chesshouse.com/products/t... because it has wooden club style chess pieces that are finished very smoothly for a finer look if that is desired. I recommend adding a couple drawstring storage bags for these. There is also an option of adding a full size storage case to make it transportable and to store the board and pieces together. Both of these wooden chess sets have great reviews and remain popular.
