This is an update to my 5-star review of Nov. 1, 2022. Four months of use has altered my approach to this set. I no longer intend to use it for travel because, while its zipper case is high quality, I have found it too cumbersome to insert and then remove pieces into the foam storage slots. Instead, I am now using this set on my smallish desk full-time while going through games in books, etc. Its 8" size is perfect for this. One other observation is that one white pawn is a bit darkish in color and one brown pawn is a bit light in color. Also, I wish an extra queen had been provided. The manufacturer should be able to correct both of those issues. I now rate this set as a 5-star desk companion. I am finalizing my purchase decision for a travel set and, at this point, pretty sure I'm going to go with the 9" Milled Leather Travel Magnetic Set. Pieces are stored in a zippered case which I know I'll prefer to the piece storage issue referenced above -- e.g. it will save much time when using it at a coffee shop.

I spent hours reviewing travel chess sets before deciding on this one. That's just how I am -- I spend as much time researching something like a travel chess set as I do a new car. Yet, one never knows with eCommerce purchases until it arrives. Well, I couldn't be happier. It's everything I hoped for and more. I could detect no imperfections and I just love it. Plus, I'm extremely impressed with the Chess House customer service. A nice note, with video, was sent thanking me for my order and describing their customer satisfaction policy. The set was impeccably packed and arrive quickly all the way from Washington State to my Upstate New York location. This was my first order with Chess House. They are now my chess supplier.

Perfect companion for game analysis and play in tight quarters. The board construction feels and looks excellent, and the pieces are very well made.

I bought this board primarily for home analysis, to stop annoying my spouse with the permanently set up tournament sized board on the kitchen table. It suits this need perfectly. I keep it on my desk and use it for various things, setting up puzzles, playing through games, etc.

It’s so easy to move around to the couch, the bedroom, etc. Given that I don’t intend on really traveling with it I think I would have liked the 12” board more for analysis, but I was impatient. This one is perfect.

I didn’t notice until I was taking these photos that one knight is significantly darker than the other but it doesn’t really bother me

This set is well made and easy on the eyes. Nicely proportioned with a handsome case. The magnetic attraction is nicely tight. Very happy with it!
