I have a Chess set (Drueke #35) from about the early or mid 1950's. The set is 32 pieces complete, but in a recent game that rare event occurred wherein my opponent managed to promote a pawn to a Queen and he already had a Queen. Didn't have many alternatives, so we just inverted a rook to act as his second Queen. Later, I decided this was really not a satisfactory long term solution, so I went to chesshouse.com to see what might be available. Among their many fine offerings they had a category for "Bulk Solid Plastic Individual Chess Pieces" where you could order just what you needed. The pieces are for a set with about 3-3/4" King and range from 35 cents for a pawn to 95 cents for a King or Queen. Almost perfect- not quite an exact match with my set but, as they say, close enough (and definitely better than an inverted rook). I promptly order a black and a white Queen and they arrived a coupla three days later - precisely as described, well packed, and promptly shipped - my problem promptly solved for two bucks! Thanks, Chess House - you guys are the best!
