How do I set it up and start a game?
Insert four AA batteries (not included). If you are using rechargeable batteries, make sure they are fully charged. Place the unit on a flat, stable surface and set the wood pieces on their starting squares. Turn on the computer with the main power switch on the side for initial startup. After that, you can use the soft power button to put the unit into sleep mode or wake it again. On first use, select your preferred language from the menu. Then press PLAY to begin a new game. You can choose to start as White, Black, in 2-player mode, or from a custom position.
How do I change or ensure the menu is in English (or my preferred language)?
Open the language setting in the menu. Fourteen languages are supported. Scroll until “English” (or your preferred language) appears, select it, and confirm. Once chosen, the computer will remember your setting.
How do I save and reload games, and what happens if I power off?
The unit can store up to twelve games that you can reload later. Use the Save Game menu to save your favorites. If you power off using the soft button in normal shutdown, the current game should remain available. However, if the batteries are removed or the power supply is disconnected abruptly, the current game may be lost. There is also a main switch on the side that completely disconnects power, useful for transport.
What do I do if it takes too long to make moves, especially at higher levels?
At stronger levels, the computer calculates more deeply and may take longer to move. This is expected. If you prefer faster play, select a lower level. Check that your batteries are fresh, since weak batteries can reduce performance.
How do I use the trainer / hints feature?
You can enable the trainer mode which warns about weak or “bad” moves, offers take-backs, and suggests better alternatives. A Help button shows legal moves, either for all pieces or just a selected one. You can also turn on the opening names display. These features are designed to make learning and practice more effective.
What should I know about the board sensitivity or piece stability?
Pieces are magnetic, but some users noted that the magnet strength on taller pieces (king and queen) isn’t quite as strong as expected, especially if the board is tilted substantially. While it is not designed to be inverted, the magnets are strong enough to keep the position in place in unstable environments or during movement of the entire board.
What are the power options, and how can I preserve battery life?
The device runs on four AA batteries. Rechargeable AA / NiMH batteries can be used. An optional power adapter (M811) is also available. The computer recognizes periods of inactivity and switches into power-saving mode. Use the main switch on the side to fully disconnect power when transporting or storing the unit.
How do I reset the unit if it freezes or behaves strangely?
Try turning it off, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on. If that does not work, remove and reinsert the batteries to perform a full reset. You can also use the main switch to cut power completely. Refer to your manual for any additional “factory reset” options.
How do I clean and care for the wood pieces and device?
Wipe the board and pieces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids, sprays, or abrasive cleaners. Store the wood pieces in the included cotton bag to protect them. Keep the computer in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures or moisture. If storing long-term, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Handle the wood pieces gently to avoid damaging the finish or felt bases.
Is there a warranty?
