Chess Genius New Edition (Model 810-24)

  1. How do I ensure English language on startup?
On first power-up, the computer may display German by default. If you see “Deutsch,” use the arrow keys to scroll to “English” and press OK/Enter. Once selected, the unit will remember your language choice for future use.
  2.
  3. How do I set up the ChessGenius 2024 for the first time?
Insert 3 AA batteries (included) or connect an optional AC adapter. Place the board on a flat surface, set the pieces in starting position, and turn it on using the power button.

  4.
  5. How do I enter moves correctly?
Press lightly on the square you’re moving from, then on the square you’re moving to. The pressure-sensitive board will confirm the move on the LCD screen.

  6.
  7. What should I do if the board doesn’t recognize my move?
Make sure you press both the origin and destination squares firmly but gently. If the problem persists, check battery strength or reset the computer by turning it off/on.

  8.
  9. How do I change the difficulty level?
Use the Menu/Level button to cycle through difficulty levels. You can select from beginner to expert settings. The display will confirm the current level.

  10.
  11. Can I take back a move?
Yes. Press the Take Back button to undo one or more of your last moves. This is especially useful for practice or learning sessions.

  12.
  13. How do I set up a custom position or continue a game in progress?
Enter Position Setup Mode via the menu. Use the board to place each piece where you want it, then exit the menu to resume play.

  14.
  15. The screen is hard to see. How do I adjust the display?
The LCD has a backlight option. Use the Menu button to turn it on or off depending on your environment.

  16.
  17. Does the computer save my game if I turn it off?
Yes. If you use the soft power button, the ChessGenius 2024 will go into standby and retain your game so you can continue later. However, if you remove the batteries or disconnect power, the saved game will be lost.

  18.
  19. What if I lose a piece?
The set comes with two extra queens. If another piece is lost, you can order replacement pieces directly from Chess House under our Easy Replacement Pieces program. Just reach out with your name and order number, and we’ll quickly supply you with the piece you need.

  20.
  21. What power options do I have?
The unit runs on 3 AA batteries. If you play often, consider purchasing the optional AC adapter (sold separately) to save on battery replacements.

    •
    •
    • How do I reset the computer if it freezes or acts strangely?
First, try switching it off, waiting a few seconds, and switching it back on. If the issue persists, you have two options:

    • Clear All Reset: Use a paperclip to press the small pin-hole reset button on the underside of the unit. This performs a full reset.

      • Battery Reset: Remove and reinsert the batteries (or disconnect/reconnect power) to restart the system.

      •
    •
  22. How can I clean and care for my chess computer?
Use a soft dry cloth to wipe the board and pieces. Avoid liquids, sprays, or abrasive cleaners. Store the unit in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  23.

Chess Master II (Model 800)

How do I get started with setup and first use?
The Master II runs on three AA batteries, which are not included. Insert the batteries, place the board on a stable flat surface, and set up the chess pieces in their starting positions. Turn the unit on, select your preferred language, and choose a difficulty level. If you are new to the computer, it’s best to begin with the easier levels.

How do I change the menu language?
The Master II supports thirteen different languages. If the computer starts in a language you do not understand, navigate through the menu until you find the language option. Scroll until you reach English and confirm with the OK or Enter button. Once set, the device will remember your choice.

Why is the computer so slow at higher levels?
At advanced settings, the processor takes much longer to calculate moves, which can mean noticeable wait times. This is normal behavior. If you want faster play, reduce the difficulty level. Also check that your batteries are fresh, as low battery voltage can affect performance.

The Tutor or Hint feature does not seem to work correctly. What should I do?
Some users have reported that the tutor warns against certain moves but then behaves inconsistently. First confirm that you are in the correct mode for hints, not in a different help setting. If the tutor continues to misbehave, reset the game and test again with a simpler position. Persistent issues can be resolved by resetting the computer or contacting support.

Does the Master II save my game when I turn it off?
Yes. If you turn off the computer with the soft power button, the game will be saved so you can continue later. If the batteries are removed or power is lost, the saved game will be erased and you will need to re-enter the position.

How do I make moves and correct mistakes?
To enter a move, press lightly on the square you are moving from and then press the square you are moving to. If you make an error, you can use the Take Back or Move Cancel function to undo the last move. For multiple errors, you can use position setup mode to restore the pieces correctly.

What should I do if pieces do not stay in place or the board feels too sensitive?
The board is magnetic and designed to hold the pieces securely. If pieces shift too easily, make sure the board is on a stable, flat surface and that the pieces are properly seated on the squares. If a specific piece or magnet appears faulty, replacements can be ordered through Chess House’s Easy Replacement Pieces program.

What power options are available?
The Master II uses three AA batteries. For heavy or regular play, consider using the optional Millennium M811 AC adapter, which is sold separately.

How do I reset the computer if it freezes?
Start by turning the computer off, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on. If the problem remains, remove and reinsert the batteries to reset the system completely. Check the manual for any additional reset functions that may be available on your unit.

How can I care for and maintain the computer?
Keep the board clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners. Store the device in a cool, dry environment away from extreme heat or cold. If you will not be using the computer for a long time, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Handle the pieces gently to extend their life and preserve the sensitivity of the sensors.

Chess Genius PRO (Model 815)

How do I set it up and start a game?
Install four AA batteries (not included). Place the board on a flat, stable surface and position the pieces correctly with their magnetic bases. Turn on the computer using the power switch, choose your language, and press the Play button to begin a new game. You can start as White, Black, in 2-player mode, or from a custom position.

How do I change or ensure the menu is in English (or my preferred language)?
The ChessGenius Pro supports fourteen languages. If the menu comes up in another language, open the language settings and scroll until you find English (or your preferred language). Once chosen, the computer will remember this setting.

How do I save and reload games, and what happens if I power off?
Up to twelve games can be stored in the device and reloaded later. There is a Save Game menu where you can specifically choose to save your favorites. If you power off using the soft button (normal shutdown), the current game should remain. However, if batteries are removed or the power supply is disconnected abruptly, the current game may be lost. Note that there is also a main switch on the back for completely disconnecting power when transporting or storing the unit.

What do I do if the computer takes too long to make moves, especially at higher levels?
At stronger playing levels, the computer calculates more deeply and can take noticeably longer to move. This is normal behavior. If you prefer faster play, select a lower difficulty level. Also make sure your batteries are fresh, since weak batteries can reduce performance.

How do I use the trainer / hints feature?
You can enable the chess trainer mode which warns about weak or “bad” moves, offers take-backs, and suggests better alternatives. There is also a Help button showing legal moves, either for all pieces or just for a selected one. You can also turn on the opening names display. These features are designed to make learning easier and more interactive.

What should I know about the board sensitivity or piece stability?
Pieces are magnetic, but some users noted that the magnet strength on taller pieces (king and queen) isn’t quite as strong as expected, especially if the board is tilted substantially. While it is not designed to invert, the magnets are expected to be strong enough to keep the position in place in unstable environments or during movement of the entire board.

What are the power options, and how can I preserve battery life?
The unit operates on four AA batteries. Rechargeable NiMH AA batteries can be used, and there is also an optional power adapter (M811) available for plugged-in play. The computer has a power-saving mode that reduces battery use after inactivity, and a main switch on the back for full power cutoff.

How do I reset the computer if it freezes or behaves strangely?
First try turning it off and waiting a few seconds before turning it back on. If that does not resolve the issue, remove and reinsert the batteries to reset the system. You can also use the main switch on the back to cut power completely. Check your manual for any additional reset instructions.

How do I clean and care for the chess computer?
Wipe the board and pieces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners. Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from extreme heat or cold. If you will not use it for a long time, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Handle pieces carefully to maintain the magnets and sensor responsiveness.

Chess Genius PRO Wood Edition (Model 818)

How do I set it up and start a game?
Insert four AA batteries (not included). If you are using rechargeable batteries, make sure they are fully charged. Place the unit on a flat, stable surface and set the wood pieces on their starting squares. Turn on the computer with the main power switch on the side for initial startup. After that, you can use the soft power button to put the unit into sleep mode or wake it again. On first use, select your preferred language from the menu. Then press PLAY to begin a new game. You can choose to start as White, Black, in 2-player mode, or from a custom position.

How do I change or ensure the menu is in English (or my preferred language)?
Open the language setting in the menu. Fourteen languages are supported. Scroll until “English” (or your preferred language) appears, select it, and confirm. Once chosen, the computer will remember your setting.

How do I save and reload games, and what happens if I power off?
The unit can store up to twelve games that you can reload later. Use the Save Game menu to save your favorites. If you power off using the soft button in normal shutdown, the current game should remain available. However, if the batteries are removed or the power supply is disconnected abruptly, the current game may be lost. There is also a main switch on the side that completely disconnects power, useful for transport.

What do I do if it takes too long to make moves, especially at higher levels?
At stronger levels, the computer calculates more deeply and may take longer to move. This is expected. If you prefer faster play, select a lower level. Check that your batteries are fresh, since weak batteries can reduce performance.

How do I use the trainer / hints feature?
You can enable the trainer mode which warns about weak or “bad” moves, offers take-backs, and suggests better alternatives. A Help button shows legal moves, either for all pieces or just a selected one. You can also turn on the opening names display. These features are designed to make learning and practice more effective.

What should I know about the board sensitivity or piece stability?
Pieces are magnetic, but some users noted that the magnet strength on taller pieces (king and queen) isn’t quite as strong as expected, especially if the board is tilted substantially. While it is not designed to be inverted, the magnets are strong enough to keep the position in place in unstable environments or during movement of the entire board.

What are the power options, and how can I preserve battery life?
The device runs on four AA batteries. Rechargeable AA / NiMH batteries can be used. An optional power adapter (M811) is also available. The computer recognizes periods of inactivity and switches into power-saving mode. Use the main switch on the side to fully disconnect power when transporting or storing the unit.

How do I reset the unit if it freezes or behaves strangely?
Try turning it off, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on. If that does not work, remove and reinsert the batteries to perform a full reset. You can also use the main switch to cut power completely. Refer to your manual for any additional “factory reset” options.

How do I clean and care for the wood pieces and device?
Wipe the board and pieces with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquids, sprays, or abrasive cleaners. Store the wood pieces in the included cotton bag to protect them. Keep the computer in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures or moisture. If storing long-term, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Handle the wood pieces gently to avoid damaging the finish or felt bases.

Is there a warranty?
Yes. Millennium provides a manufacturer’s warranty. For service, repairs, or replacement parts, contact Chess House support and we’ll guide you through the process.

King Performance (Model 830)

How do I set up my King Performance for the first time?
