The unmistakable feel of these heavily weighted pieces gives a positive touch to your game. Extra weight near the base of the pieces makes them very stable, highly recommended for blitz chess. These pieces were reproduced in a more brilliant yellow color for 2018 and increased in size marginally to the current 3.75" tall.
Pieces are finished with real green felt and weigh in at 3lbs 14oz in total, one of the heaviest sets available. They do come with extra queens as well and the total set weight includes those extra queens.
- King height: 3 3/4"
- King base: 1 5/8"
- Green felt bases
- Extra queens included, 34 pieces
- King weight: 3.0oz
- Set weight: 3 lbs. 14 oz.
The best of all the roll ups.
I'm thrilled with the Flex Pad boards! The boards are thin, yet have a high-quality feel. The available colors should please a wide variety of tastes and I'm looking forward to many years of service.
The butter yellow is a nice distinction that differentiates this set from a lot of other sets. Some may be turned off by it but I like that it makes it stand out. The set is very nicely weighted and the pieces have a very nice center of gravity making this set a good candidate for fast blitz games.
Based on Chris’s review of the olive and Scot’s review indigo one I bought these. My 12 year old son wanted a navy blue to go with his old blue & yellow Ultimate set. Navy blue isn’t offered , Scot said it is navy blue with a purple tinge.
So I called CH, Paul was helpful and confirmed Scott’s opinions. Actually the indigo kind looks like navy blue in some lighting conditions like fluorescent lighting. It looks more purple in incandescent lighting. And just the way Scott described in out door daylight or LED lighting. My son really likes it.
I sort of wanted the traditional forest green for myself. However since I would mostly be using this with a ref & white HOS Reykjavik set I thought the forest green would look to much like Christmas colors. Chris’s photo was really helpful, I knew then the olive was what I wanted for that set to replace the worn out vinyl.
The boards are amazing! No longer does one need a dedicated chess bag or case for transport and storage. Just use a lunch box, old camera bag or a cheap tool box. Because you can fold it. A chess house drawstring bag would be helpful if you did that. Those are nice too BTW.
Doesn’t resist stains like vinyl. However, you can wipe it with a damp cloth or rinse the stained area under the tap. Let it dry on a table under the cieling fan, ant it’s all clean & good as new.
Two thumbs up!
