Product Details

The Millennium Chess Genius Pro is the ideal chess computer for club and tournament players of all skill levels. It's one of the most powerful chess computers of all time, featuring the world-champion software ChessGenius by Richard Lang!

After the much-publicized launch of MILLENNIUM Chess Genius in late autumn 2015, we now see the significantly improved performance and enhanced, more elegant, version of Chess Genius PRO. Many ideas expressed by users have been incorporated in this new computer.

Genius Pro plays at a significantly higher skill level of more than 2200 ELO (2400 USCF).

The changes are visual as well, new pieces in an exclusive white and black chrome, along with felt and significantly improved sensor board and pressure point.

Hardware Improvements:

  • Significantly improved sensor board with smooth-running pressure point
  • 5x faster processor
  • 5x more RAM memory
  • Automatic power supply detection-connected power supply switches off the sleep mode during 24 hours for long term analyzing
  • Manual

Software Improvements:

  • Three different options for Openings:
    • No opening book, computer calculates by itself
    • "Classic London Book" of 57,000 positions (3x larger)

  • Improved sleep mode with extended wake cycles
  • Display of move numbers in INFO mode
  • New "Mate in X" feature for problem solving

Overall, the Pro is a significant performance improvement, an ideal choice for improving, regular, or ambitious players. The playing algorithms and therefore playing style is adjusted and enhanced.

Due to the increased processor performance it's recommended to use an AC power supply sold separately. The battery operation is fine, however the playing time rates well below that of the previous model.

Playing levels and playing difficulty:

  • Countless levels especially for beginners
  • Virtually unlimited number of levels of difficulty
  • Includes demanding tournament levels suitable for skilled players
  • Average time per move
  • Max overall duration of game
  • Special "Mate in X" stage for problem solving
  • Shows suggested moves (best, second, third best etc. moves given position)

  • Versatile analysis mode (text displays and chessboard display)
  • Display analysis of positions, main variants and move number
  • Enter any chess position

Especially for novices

IMPORTANT: We have noted a few minor design issues, which have been submitted to the manufacturer:

  1. The unit's factory default language is German. When the unit is reset (from loss of power or from pressing the reset button) it will default back to German. This is fixed simply by pressing the reset button, then the Right Arrow and the Green ENT button.
  2. MOST, but not ALL pieces will fit in the storage compartment below the unit.
  3. Contrast adjustment settings do not appear to function correctly and in most cases do nothing at all for the display. In the units that we tested, all displays already were in the most optimal contrast setting.

I think the product is great , it’s new yet & have to get used to applying pressure to board squares. More important it was a pleasure doing this. . Paul @ Josh were exceptional. Thanks again!!

This is a good chess computer.

The chess computer arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The only set up for an English speaker was to set the language to "English" once. After that, it was ready to play. It has the same design and interface all chess computers have had since the eighties. Just read the included manual if you have never used one. This computer is versatile and works great.

wrong opinion

I would now, having received it, give the whole thing a zero. Very difficult to set up, screen way too small, and can't do what you want it to do. Talks about book openings, but you cannot set what you want, and you don't know what you are playing against. For me, it was a big mistake.

Powerful but lack ergonomics and convenience

First, the bad news- Could they make the print in the manual any smaller? The LCD screen is tiny as well. I am not seeing a material difference in ease of viewing no matter how I set the contrast. I expected a learning curve, but some things are not all that intuitive. It lacks convenience and comfort for the user.

I can't understand how they designed this without storage bag for the pieces and failing to provide some kind of a travel sleeve to cover the board. I have a zipper pouch from something else that I use to hold the pieces. I have to figure out a good way to protect the board for travel. With a few small changes that wouldn't cost all that much, this could have been a 5 star review.

I'm getting eye strain. I would have paid a bit more money if the LCD and squares were both larger and more easily visible. I would also have preferred to have been able to move pieces by pressing the bottom down while the piece is vertical instead of having to be canted.

The good news- This is a really powerful machine with a huge number of options and settings available. The software seems really good. It works for a beginner through a very good player depending on your choice of settings. It is reasonably priced for what it does. How durable remains to be seen.
