Attractive by design, the large, detailed, triple-weight Professional Series pieces are ideal for casual or competitive play most often combined with club size vinyl roll-up chessboards.
The set includes extra Queens and soft felt bases.

As one reviewer already acknowledged, the Queens have sharp points and the black plastic is a bit prone to scratching. We find that the overall appearance of the plastic can be restored or improved with a fine grit wet/dry sandpaper. We used 1100 grit and the result was impressive.

I have two of these sets now and I love them. My family joined our local chess club and everyone who has played with this set also likes them. Great weight and size, they feel very substantial and do not tip over easily like some lightweight sets tend to do. I would purchase this item again. Completely satisfied.
4 1/4" Professional Series Chess Pieces (weighted)
Excellent feel...won my first game with them ;)
Perfect for the Board for which they were purchased.
These pieces are big, even imposing. The plastic is glossy and hard. The white color is whiter than the "ivory" of some other plastic sets, but still not notebook-paper white. The pieces are well sculpted, though not particularly detailed; bases and columns blend gracefully, no "pole on a plate" look. Mold quality is so-so; mold lines are obvious though not grossly prominent. Felts are decent, but most are applied way off-center. They don't stick out the sides, but the eccentric gluing is obvious when pieces are viewed from below.
The real problem with this set is the poor molding quality of the queens. The points of the coronet are very sharp, which doesn't bother me, but the edges have heavy plastic flashing - which is just plain ugly - and the little ball on top is seriously off-center - which is just plain ridiculous. All 4 queens in the set suffer these flaws.
To me, the poor quality of the queens is a serious blemish on what is otherwise a very decent chess set.
