About The the STACK Chessboard - Tournament Edition in Wenge and Maple

You'll be amazed by the attention this unique chess board attracts. The innovative STACK chessboard blends art and functionality and transforms seamlessly into an eye-catching, solid hardwood chess board with an ultra-smooth furniture finish.

The Wenge and Maple with Grey Suede brings a bold, darker look in a color pairing to complement many current modern decors.

The STACK chess board is a fascinating and exclusive centerpiece and the most unique and functional chess board ever made. It's for those who have an eye for artistic craft, who appreciate extraordinary craftsmanship, and who enjoy the game of chess.

As each layer is placed, embedded magnets join the four quadrants to form a smooth and seamless 64 square game playing surface.

The soft suede wrap with embedded magnets artfully covers the STACK to both protect and enhance it's presentation and emphasize the exclusivity, uniqueness, and care the STACK receives during every step its creation.

Those who love attractive, well made goods will enjoy the fine wenge and maple hardwoods finished to perfection.

The STACK blends art and functionality in a complete unique and exclusive product crafted by hand in Pennsylvania. The completely original chessboard is suited for games with a friend or loved one or as a centerpiece representing innovation and intelligence. It's a perfect gift, a clever, refined, and bold work of art that transforms into a seamless and solid hardwood chess board that's both eye-catching and startlingly precise for a handcrafted product.

  • Solid wenge and maple hardwoods
  • Magnets seamlessly connect the 4 layers
  • Suede wrap in Grey
  • 18" square chess board, 2.25" squares, 3/4" thickness
  • Add your own pieces or select one of the options recommended.
  • 100% handcrafted in USA by a Chess House exclusive artist.
  • NOTE: This is a product made of natural materials and variations in grain and color can be different from board to board. This may be particularly notable in the Wenge wood, which can range from a semi consistent dark chocolate color to a higher contrast grain variance of dark and lighter brown tones (as seen in a few customer review photos).
About the Artist: John has a rich woodworking heritage in the state of Pennsylvania. Originally from Switzerland, the skills were passed down through five generations. This lost art of woodworking is continually refined, blending timeless methods with the latest knowledge of wood behavior. For example every design must be carefully planned with the appropriate wood selection and cuts to account for variations in humidity that cause natural expansion and contraction of wood. To craft a wood product that will last for generations, John gives great attention to every phase of production including wood selection, drying, cutting, curing, crafting, and the multi-step finishing process that results in the smooth, elegant, lustrous finish for which the JLP products are known. Every product is personally overseen by John and must meet his standards before releasing them to Chess House.

Beautiful board though a bit pricey. The wrap is flimsy and could use some improvement for better all around protection and travel.

Beautiful chess board.

Stacks nicely and lays down beautifully. The surface is perfectly level and fitment of the four sections is seamless. The suede wrap is a nice touch for displaying the chessboard stacked on a shelf at home/office, but the magnets that hold the wrap together is too weak to depend on for protecting the board for travel. I would love to see a thinner version of this chessboard to reduce weight, perhaps as much as half the thickness, with a fully enclosed case or pouch for travel. Someone use to make a version as I just described but he made very few then stopped. Too bad.

Great board

I got this board for my wife and she really loves it. the only downside is the suede strap. it'd be nice if there was a non-leather option for storing the board.

Excellent workmanship

The board is without doubt a 5-star product. Workmanship is superb, no defects, magnet alignment works perfectly. It shipped to Puerto Rico and the packaging did its job. …… 5 star review

The pictures on the web site do show a darker Wenge than what I received. I concluded that I had received the Walnut board, not the Wenge (perhaps influenced by the 7/21 review below). I contacted Chesshouse to arrange either a change or a credit for the difference …. 5 star drops to 2

After exchanging pictures it turns out my board is the Wenge edition. Nonetheless, Chesshouse was glad to arrange a return and emphasized their 90 day, 100% satisfaction guarantee. I have to say, one call was all it took (no transferring from one department to another, no holds, no ifs or buts) to give me all the options. …. Rating jumps back to 4.5

Realizing we’re dealing with the natural variations in wood, and given that the board is extraordinary, I’m keeping it. Here are some pictures, though, so you appreciate the tonality and help you decide on whether you go the Wenge or the Walnut route.

Look at those pictures… I got to give it a 5!
