I'm 71 years old, been playing for 61 years and rank around1650 on a good day. I have had many different Staunton interpretations over the years, many from The House Of Staunton. I currently use a board from them that has 3.5" squares made of Amboyna burl and Birdseye Maple with a 2" maple surround. Probably what will be my last set I wanted something that would set off the big board. Tired of all the old fashioned soft rounded giant slotted bishops and shallow rook walls and aside from the bridle series, knights that leave much to be desired.

This set and this company has exceled with service and craftsmanship. you may feel confidant buying from them. A comparable set at The House of Staunton would easily run from $600-$900. The Rosewood is appropriately on the dark side with very good grain structure.

The pieces are what I would describe as handsome. they come with felt bottoms that slide, not leather that doesn't. A sharp angled miter on the bishops cap, tall fortress walls that are very distinctive on the rook, clean unexaggerated head on the Queen with a sharp cut crown and a clean cross on the King. The details in the horses mouth with the large horse teeth, braided main and sculptured ears are very well done. Someone in India knows what their doing besides playing chess. As you can see I am more than satisfied with the set as have my friends been who play with me. Sorry if I have been long winded but I felt this set and service deserved the attention. Enjoy.
